MMER 2011 - Part 1
Event: Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race 2011

Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race or better known as MMER is a 12 hours race that was introduce at the turn of the millennium. It is one and only international standard endurance race in South East Asia. It is a race that created in conjunction to celebrate Malaysia's Independence Day.
In it earlier days, it participants were mostly local racing team and most of team uses 1600cc touring production car to race. Back then, Honda Civic were a popular chassis.
In an effort to raise the standard of this race to international endurance race standard, the organizer had reshuffle the rules book in 2009.
Touring car below 1900cc wasn't eligible now. Thus, 1900cc Touring Production class is the lowest class now in MMER.
Above Touring production class is Sport production class which mainly consist of GT4 cars and Super Taikyu Cars.
Lastly, the top dog, the GT class where the super fast GT3 cars and Cup cars are in.
Now in it 11th edition, it evolved into international standard endurance race which manage to attract top team from all over the world.
Some big name in endurance race scene such as Audi Belgian Club, Petronas Syntium Team and LKM took part this year.
Another welcoming move by the organizer in order to boost the race is the switch this year race to start at 12 noon in stead of 12 midnight. This is actually a good move!!
The result is the everyone will stay fresher and awake. Nob Tanaguchi approved it....lol
Another addition to this year race are the inclusion of Vw Scirocco from China Scirocco R cup series and they come in numbers...
...as well as grid girls.
And many more beautiful grid girls.
Back to the race, let us look at some interesting entries. ST powered racing team from Singapore had send 3 entries this year and they are the hot favorite to win Touring class.
And they will face a strong challenge from local Malaysia team such as Team Type R racing...
...and previous year winner Wing Hin Motorsport.
In sport production class, Nexus racing team running a Aston Martin Vantage is the hot favorite and their challenger are..
...BTB Racing Lotus 2-11..
...and Tracy Sport S2000 all the way from Japan.
In GT class, we have hot favorite Petronas Syntium Team using the impressive Mercedes SLS GT3. They will fielding 2 cars, car 15 and 28 with N.Taniguchi / M.Yanagida / Dominic Ang will be driving car 15 and T.Kataoka / Fariqe Hairuman / Bernd Schneider will be driving car 28. That is one impressive driver lineup.
They face a strong challenge from Endurance race expert Belgian Audi Club with Frank Biela / Marcel Fassler / Marco Werner driving the car 1 and Darryl O'Young / Seiji Ara / Alex Yoong driving car 2.
And Asia Pacific Arrows Racing team will provide further challenge to Petronas Syntium team and as well as....
LKM racing team and...
Craft Eurasia Racing Ford GT.
In qualifying, Petronas Syntium Team car number 28 manage to grab the pole position with a total team time of 06:16.346 and follow by car number 15 with almost a second behind. Qualified third is car number 1 from Belgian Audi Club. The rest of the qualifying result as below link:
