Gymkhana 2011 Round 3
Event: Gymkhana 2011 Round 3
Date: 23 Jun 2011
Location: Cyberjaya
A little intro for this event. Gymkhana series was launched in Malaysia early of 2011. After 2 round of event held this year, finally i decided to pay a visit to an event that is inspired by Ken Block's version of gymkhana.
This is a very new event with very little money involved. With entry fee of RM60 per round, it is the most affordable motorsport series in you can get Malaysia.
The event was held regularly in Cyberjaya sport center's big car park area. The participant will be divided into group according to their car spec such as front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and all wheel drive.
Each driver will be given a practice session and a qualifying session on that day. For the main event where driver will be arrange according to their timing for a twin battle race.
For the twin battle race each driver will set off at the same time and the fastest time will win.The course layout are consist of tight 360 degree turn, 180 degree turn and 90 degree turn.
Therefore, nimble car such as small light weight car will have advantage over the bigger heavy car.
Bigger car such as silvia, will lost some advantage over the smaller Kelisa.
With affordable entry fee, this event manage to attract many type of entries and these participant are often tight in budget.
Some pros such as Team Goodyear's Jane do join in the fun.
And some more fortunate guy with big sponsor.
And some are first timer in motorsport and drive their bone stock car against the more better tuned cars.
Unfortunately, the rain started to fall just before the twin battle starts. It is quite a disappointment but the show still carry on.
I did not manage to stay for the whole race as i was rushing off for another appointment. But overall this event give me a good impression. With low entries fee, more freedom in rules and friendly environment, it will only do well for grassroots motorsport in Malaysia.
