Sepang 1000KM 2011 - Part 2
Event: Sepang 1000KM 2011
Date: 4 Dec 2011
Location: Sepang International Circuit, SIC
One of the my favorite time of shooting in Sepang international Circuit is that short period of sunset.
Warm light that splash into the lens to create a nice lens flare.
This beautiful scenery also mean that many drivers are tired out and car start to show some sickness after long our of battle.
And some car show the reliability and consistent which resulting them moving up the ladder.
Some start to fall up such as car number 80 manage to complete 164 lap.
Some still pushing hard to the limit.
The only European car in the race manage to finish in a respectable 9th with 170 lap completed. Not bad consider the team first outing with the car.
Car number 8 one of the few Suzuki entries that manage to finish well with 15th overall.
As soon the light get too low and i head back to pit garage.
Once i reach the pit garage, Team Type R racing Toyota Altis was performing a routine pit stop.
At a glimpse of an eye, the car was ready and off they goes to reach the target of 1000km.
JC Racing Suzuki Swift coming in for a quick refueling.
And off it goes....
Each team are busy monitoring the timing and constant communicate with their driver in the pit wall. The team principle of R3 Racing Tengku Djan Ley having a quick discussion with the rest of the crew.
This year pit stop rules was tighten up. During refueling, no one is allow to be near the car. Only one crew with the fuel and a crew with fire extinguisher is allow during refueling.
Once refueling is done, the rest of the crew allow to goes near the car to perform routine service.
Mechanical problem had prevented Team Kegani Toyota Celica from challenging the title. They are the fastest in the field but only manage to complete 167 laps before retiring.
That allow Lim Chun Beng/Vincent Ng in car number 37 Toyota Celica take the title in class 1 and 8th overall.
R3 racing one of the favourite before the race had managed to finish 4th overall with Proton Gen2 car number 12.
At the end, with consistent performance and free of mechanical problem, Team Type R racing wins the overall title by overtake JC Racing Suzuki Swift at the last hour and become the first car to finish 181 lap with total time of 8:48:06.567.
TW Hsiao / Desmond Yee / HL Ng in car number 90 took the third overall place with 1 lap behind the top two car.
The show wasn't over as fellow competitor had file a protest to the race official against Team Type R racing Toyota Altis of not fulfilling the requirements of a 1.6 cc car in which the class the team was registered. That protest was enough to stop Team Type R racing to claim their second Sepang 1K race win as the race official announce their car fulfill the requirement. Congrats to Team Type R racing.
