Location: Dataran Merderka
Kuala Lumpur: Formula Drift Malaysia 2010 is the final stop of Formula Drift Asian tour. Previous round was held in Thailand and Singapore. Formula Drift Malaysia 2010 took place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Dataran Merdeka. The city view added the color to event and created a great motorsport carnival weekend.
Defending champion Tengku Djan Ley was leading the scoring board period to this event. A debut appearance for 2008 D1gp champion Daigo Saito whom will be driving Hong Kong Team Type R Toyota Aristo.
The track was the main street of Dataran Merdeka which make up of narrow and challenging corner especially the lollipop corner. Many drifter find the track very technical and hard to execute a clear run. Hong Kong Team Type R Toyota Altezza had the most bad crash among all.
It was a disappointing weekend for Malaysia drifting, as all Malaysia driver crash out as early as top 8. Local drift icon Tengku Djan Ley didn't manage to progress to top 16. The only Malaysian driver in top 8 was Ser Ming Hui where he lost to Indonesia Driver Rifat Sungkur.
Eventually, it was Thai driver Kokae vs Daigo Saito in the final. Kokae was on fire throughout the day and manage to top the qualifying chart. But with precision and excellent car control, Daigo Saito manage to hold off the young Kokae.
With that done, Daigo Saito was crown as winner of Formula Drift Malaysia 2010 with Kokae as runner up. Ryuji Miki was 2nd runner up after defeating Rifat Sungkur. Meanwhile, Tengku Djan Ley was crown the overall series winner having won the Formula Drift Singapore 2010 early of the year. Congrats to all the winner and this event should be one of the highlight of the year for Malaysian Motorsport.
